“We have a complex HVAC setup with two furnaces and a boiler. Midwest Comfort diagnosed an intermittent ignition issue that two other companies missed. Fixed it the same afternoon. Exceptional technical knowledge.” — Verified Highland Park Customer

Heating Challenges in Highland Park Residences

Highland Park’s residential character blends historic homes along Sheridan Road and the ravine neighborhoods with substantial mid-century homes and newer custom builds. Many properties have heating systems that are more complex than the single-furnace setups found in typical suburban homes:

  • Multi-furnace coordination failures: Larger Highland Park homes frequently rely on two or more furnaces serving separate zones. When one system’s control board loses communication with the zoning panel, the entire zone goes cold while other parts of the house heat normally.
  • Boiler-to-forced-air transition issues: Some Highland Park homeowners have converted from radiant or steam heat to forced air during renovations. Inadequately designed ductwork from these conversions can cause static pressure problems that stress the furnace blower and create uneven heating.
  • High-end variable-speed furnace control faults: Premium furnaces with modulating gas valves and variable-speed blowers offer superior comfort, but their integrated control modules are more complex. A single sensor or board failure can cascade into a system-wide shutdown that requires model-specific diagnostic expertise.
  • Flue draft problems in multi-story homes with interior chimneys: Highland Park’s tall homes with interior chimney runs can experience stack-effect-induced backdrafting. On calm, cold days, the home’s natural air pressure dynamics may pull combustion gases down the chimney instead of allowing them to exhaust upward.
  • Humidifier bypass damper interference: Whole-house humidifiers connected to the furnace duct system use bypass dampers that can stick open or closed. A stuck-open damper allows cooled air to recirculate back through the furnace return, reducing effective heating output.
  • Noise complaints from high-static-pressure ductwork: Undersized or poorly designed ductwork in renovated Highland Park homes creates whistling, banging, and rushing sounds that homeowners often attribute to the furnace itself. We differentiate between furnace-generated noise and ductwork-generated noise to prescribe the correct solution.

Goodman

Carrier

Trane

Rheem

How We Approach Furnace Repair in Highland Park

Highland Park’s heating systems often require more than a quick component swap. Our technicians arrive prepared for complexity.

Step 1

Consultation

The diagnostic begins with a conversation about the home’s heating layout—how many zones, how many systems, and what type of thermostat controls are in place.

Step 2

System Isolation

We isolate the affected system and run a full diagnostic sequence tailored to the equipment type.

Step 3

Advanced Diagnostics

For modulating and variable-speed furnaces, this includes reading manufacturer-specific fault codes, testing sensor inputs, and verifying control logic. For conventional units, we follow our standard protocol covering ignition, combustion, airflow, and safety controls.

Step 4

Clear Quote

You receive a clear explanation and a flat-rate written quote before any repair begins.

Step 5

Repair & Verification

We complete the approved repair and verify safe, consistent operation through multiple heating cycles.

24/7 Emergency Furnace Repair in Highland Park

Losing heat in a large Highland Park home during a winter storm can mean dangerously cold temperatures in upper floors within hours. Our emergency line at (847) 338-2777 is answered by our dispatch team around the clock. We prioritize calls involving vulnerable household members, frozen-pipe risk, or multi-system failures, and we provide a clear quote before beginning any repair work.

Why Highland Park Homeowners Trust Midwest Comfort

Technical Depth for Complex Systems

Multi-furnace homes, zoned systems, and modulating equipment need a technician who understands advanced controls—not just basic component swaps.

Transparent Pricing Regardless of Home Size

We quote the repair, not the neighborhood. A flame sensor replacement costs the same in Highland Park as it does in any other suburb we serve.

Safety Without Shortcuts

CO testing, heat exchanger inspection, and gas leak checks on every call. No exceptions.

Respect for Your Property

Shoe covers, drop cloths, and careful cleanup. We treat every home as if it were our own.

Locally Operated, Community Committed

We are based in Elk Grove Village and serve the northwest and north suburbs. Your call reaches a local team, not a national dispatch center.

Highland Park & Surrounding Furnace Repair Coverage

We serve all Highland Park neighborhoods and surrounding communities, including but not limited to:

DEERFIELD · HIGHWOOD · LAKE FOREST · NORTHBROOK · GLENCOE · BANNOCKBURN

Frequently Asked Questions — Furnace Service in Highland Park, IL

Yes. We service single-zone and multi-zone heating systems, including setups with multiple furnaces, zoning dampers, and centralized control panels. We diagnose zone-specific issues without disrupting the rest of the system.

Absolutely. Our technicians are trained on modulating and variable-speed equipment from Carrier, Trane, American Standard, Lennox, and other manufacturers. These systems require model-specific diagnostic procedures that differ from standard single-stage repairs.

We service the forced-air furnace components. If the issue involves a boiler or radiant loop, we diagnose the scope of the problem and let you know which system is affected before recommending next steps.

No. Frequent cycling—known as short-cycling—typically indicates a dirty filter, a faulty limit switch, an oversized furnace, or a thermostat issue. Short-cycling wastes energy and accelerates wear on the heat exchanger and ignitor. It should be professionally diagnosed.

Annual maintenance identifies developing issues before they become emergency failures. It also maintains efficiency, extends equipment life, and preserves your manufacturer warranty. We recommend scheduling a tune-up every fall before the heating season begins.

No. Our pricing is consistent across our entire service area. The diagnostic fee and repair rates you receive in Highland Park are the same as any other suburb we serve.

Excellent service. Very good knowledge about heating and cooling system. Nice experience with the technician.
The owner of Midwest Comfort Heating & Cooling LLC based in Elk Grove Village, IL recently assessed the heating and cooling issues in a relatively new-to-me home. The estimate process for the work needed was straightforward and reasonable. I am confident I made the right choice in having Mark - the owner, plus Leo install a new furnace and a new air conditioner. they were professional, courteous, and arrived when they said they would. I am glad I chose a locally owned company with great customer service!

Sooooo.....we were just returning from an exhausting (but fun) vacation. The weatherman said the temperature would be in triple digits. I turned on the air conditioning. A couple hours later, our home was still hot and I realized the A/C wasn’t working. Panic! Quick! I called Midwest Comfort Heating and Cooling and spoke with Brian. He set up an appointment for the same day. The same day! Mark came out and immediately found the problem. He was professional, knowledgeable and explained everything. Viola! He had our system was up and running in a very short time! I can’t say enough good things about Midwest Comfort Heating and Cooling. I certainly give them the “mostest” number of stars. I don’t do a lot of reviews and/or “give stars,” but I certainly need to let people know how happy I am with this experience. I certainly will use them in the future for maintenance in our home and hopefully won’t need them a lot for emergencies like this but happy to know they’re there when needed! Thank you, thank you. I truly highly recommend Midwest Comfort Heating and Cooling!

When our 60 year old boiler stopped working on the coldest day of the year, which happened to be a Saturday, we called a number of furnace repair places who either didn't answer or couldn't come out for several days. Midwest took the call and was at our house within 2 hours. During that time, they kept us updated on their ETA. The repairman was courteous and professional. He fixed the problem quickly and we had heat a short time later. The price was very fair considering the circumstances. I highly recommend them.

1/6/26 - last month I finally had to bite the bullet & get a new furnace and A/c. They were honest & Fair. I got the smaller unit per Leo’s suggestion. They were fast, efficient and thorough. They were even able to fit a humidifier in a very tight space where previous companies said would never fit. I love having a humidifier in the winter. My Google Nest thermostat was malfunctioning a few weeks later and Leo just came out and got that working. I’m very happy to be in their Comfort Club. This is a small company so you get to know them, and they treat you well. 2024- Today I had a motor replaced by Leo and once again the service was great and I renewed my service plan agreement. 2023- Jeff replaced two parts in the furnace, and informed me that the filters I was using were restricting the airflow too much. He also informed me that the unit I bought 15 years ago from a different company is too big for my house so he adjust the gas burners so I don’t over heat my unit. He was VERY good and carefully explained everything. Thank you Jeff!

Midwest is now my HVAC company of choice. Leo has been here 3 times. Super friendly and explains things very well. I particularly like the fact that you're not one of those companies that are Jack of all trades, like HVAC, electric, plumbing, but masters of none. (Looking at you, 4 Seasons!) I had yearly maintenance. The price was competitive and fair. See you again in the spring for the a/c, Leo!

I’ve used Midwest Comfort for years on my own home. Always professional and honest. Recently reached out to have my mother’s home maintained/serviced. Mark was excellent, on time and professional. Cleaned her furnace and diagnosed any issues as the system is nearing replacement. Mark was honest with her and went through options should she decide to replace the system. Could not be happier with the service. Will definitely be recommending Midwest Comfort to family and friends. One of the few remaining independent HVAC businesses you can trust.
